Hello everyone!  I hope you are all having a lovely week.  I cannot believe it is already Wednesday night — life has been a blur since last Thursday, when I headed to New Mexico for another client meeting.  I will write more about my trip soon, but today I am thrilled to share some absolute wedding gorgeousness, courtesy of the one and only Elizabeth Messina.  This wedding was featured today on Inspired by This, the fabulous blog by Be Inspired PR.  Make sure to check it out!

Last year I had the pleasure of planning an elegant and unabashedly romantic wedding at Saddlerock Ranch for Angela and James, who reside in New York. Although Saddlerock often lends itself to more rustic-feeling events, Angela really desired a soft and feminine feel for her wedding.  With the help of an all-star cast of vendors, I think we were able to achieve this beautifully.

A blush-tinged palette of neutrals set the stage for the day, in shades of pink, peach, soft gold and a dusty sage. White Lilac did the most incredible job with the florals, which were lush and textural, overflowing from a collection of mercury glass containers mixed with large tabletop lanterns.  To set the mood at the reception, abundant candlelight was utilized on the tabletops and grand chandeliers were suspended in the trees overhead.  I loved the juxtaposition of the natural, organic feel of Saddlerock and the luxe feel of the décor, which included over-the-top linens from La Tavola and carefully selected vintage pieces from {found}.  Elizabeth’s photography was the perfect complement to the feel of the day; her ethereal images immediately transport me to all the loveliness of this very special celebration.  It was an absolute delight working on this wedding and I am so thrilled to share it with all of you!

angela & james: thank you for allowing me to share in the beauty of your day.  your love is truly inspiring.  miss you both!!  xoxo

Hello everyone!  I’m so excited to kick off the week with a beautiful wedding that was featured today on Grey Likes Weddings!

Last August I had the pleasure of watching this lovely celebration unfold at Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu.  You all should know by now that Saddlerock is my home-away-from-home!  I spend a lot of time there every year (and 2011 is no different!), and I never, EVER tire of it.  (I was actually there today with a 2011 client (Hi D!) for our initial walkthrough!)  When I first met Cynthia and Luis, I was instantly moved by their kindness and joy.  After working with them in planning their wedding, I can say they are sincerely two of the most genuine and loving people I’ve had the pleasure to meet.  They also happen to be madly in love with each other.  And they’re utterly GORGEOUS.  And their wedding was, too.  😉

Cynthia envisioned a Spanish-inspired wedding dressed in bold, fiery colors including fuschia, red, orange, and a strong cobalt blue accent.  I love when brides have fun with color and this wedding is a perfect example of that — vibrant hues that really pop against the verdant backdrop of Saddlerock.  Cynthia had her talented uncle, a blacksmith, create stunning candleabras for the tabletops made of wrought iron and horseshoes.  Colorful Mexican pottery served as unique vessels for the floral arrangements, and the cobalt blue goblets made a great statement on the dining tables.  Handcrafted tin star lanterns floated above the dancefloor for an added dose of romantic ambiance.

My favorite moment of the night was listening to Cynthia surprise her new husband by singing a rendition of “Lovesong” by The Cure (one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands) after dinner.  It was incredibly moving, to say the least.  She has a fabulous voice!

Enjoy a glimpse of the day courtesy of Rudy Arpia

I adore these two pics of the stunning bride.

The dapper groom, Luis, was SUCH a gentleman.  That’s just the best word to describe him.

I love the florals juxtaposed with the bridesmaids’ blue dresses.

Cynthia and I share a love of flan!  (I even have a flan scar from one of my cooking misadventures — don’t ask…)

Cynthia & Luis… Thank you so much for entrusting me with your wedding plans!  I absolutely loved every second of working with the two of you.  The sweet love you share is such an encouragement and blessing to witness.  🙂  Cynthia — you have a heart of gold and I am grateful to call you a friend!  Love you lady!!  Looking forward to keeping in touch for years to come… xoxo

Hope you all have a fantastic week!  I’ll be spending mine with lots of clients: site visits, consultations, floral design meetings…  I can hardly wait.  🙂

love, Angel

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  I wanted to quickly drop in and share that the organic and nature-inspired baby shower we planned for Kristin of Petal and Thorn is featured today on “On To Baby.” If you haven’t checked out this blog, you are missing out on the most lovely and inspiring spot on the web for mothers and mothers-to-be!  I will admit I am one of those non-mothers who can’t get enough of nursery design, baby showers, and birthday parties.  😉  I am definitely going to be in trouble when I join the mommy club!!

Hello again, everyone!  I’m back again to share another fabulous featured wedding — this time the bright and cheerful nuptials of Sarah and Steve, which took place last May in Pasadena. The wonderful ladies of the Wedding Chicks featured this wedding last week, so make sure to check out THIS POST (if you haven’t already) to see all the details and learn more about the inspiration behind the day. I absolutely loved the quintessentially happy palette of canary yellow, cool “succulent” green, cool gray and pops of crisp white. The overall feel of the wedding was chic and playful… casual California elegance.  I hope this wedding brings some sunshine to your day!

one of my favorite bouquets ever.  a breath of fresh air.

i love the structural cymbidiums and callas paired with the creamy dahlias and softer dusty miller…

Sarah + Steve: It was such a joy to work with you, and a pleasure getting to know you (and Sarah’s sweet mom!) along the way.  😉  Thank you for all the trust you put in me as you planned from the other side of the country.  I couldn’t have been more pleased with the final outcome; your wedding really captured that balance of whimsy and elegance you desired.  Adore you both and wish you only the best.  Hope to see you next time you’re in town!!  xoxo

Hello everyone!!  I’m so thrilled to share that Khali & Potsch’s wildly creative and whimsical wedding was featured on Green Wedding Shoes!  Check out THIS POST for tons of info on the inspiration behind the day straight from the genius minds of K+P.

When I first met Khali and Potsch for their consultation with Anna, I got a major ab workout.  Anna and I maintain that their consult holds the record for most laughter. Khali and Potsch are simply two of the sweetest, most generous, kind-hearted and UTTERLY.HILARIOUS people you will ever meet.  I loved every interaction I had with these two… from the sweet emails to the giggle-fest meetings.  It was a joy to come alongside them as they planned an incredibly personalized wedding filled with DIY touches.  Anna was the lead coordinator on this wedding, which means she (and darling Michelle) ran the show on the day-of.  But, because I was managing all the planning before the big day (and had become so attached to K&P!), I couldn’t stay away from the wedding.  😉  I came for a little set-up, the ceremony, and cocktail hour.  Everything was perfect and I was blown away by the (countless) unique, gorgeous projects that Khali and Potsch put together.  From hand-sewn runners and napkins to a wooden cupcake stand complete with tiny figurines (we had the best time dreaming up funny stories about the characters…), the wedding had a whimsical, almost dream-like quality.  Enjoy these photos, courtesy of the insanely talented Kelty of Steep Street.

Stills from the silent film they made & debuted at the reception.  INCREDIBLE!!  Make sure you WATCH IT HERE.

Khali & Potsch — WOW do I love you two.  🙂  Thank you for inviting us into your lives at such a special time.  It was so inspiring to watch your creativity come to life, and it was an honor being a part of the big day.  I was so moved during your ceremony… I sat on the grass under a big tree and just reveled in the amazing power of your love. You are surrounded by so many wonderful people, too — what a blessing!  I miss you madly and can’t wait to get together soon.  And Khali: are we still going into the shoe biz together???  LOL  xoxo

{fabulous vendors}

We have another exciting feature to share with you in a day or two, so keep your eyes peeled for that!  Hope you all are having a marvelous week!

xoxo, Angel

I hope you’re all having a fabulous week!!  I’m excited to share that one of my favorite weddings from 2010, the sweet  + charming nuptials of Amanda and David, was published in an Australian wedding magazine!  Wedding Style Guide did a gorgeous 6-page (!!!) spread of the wedding, which took place at Chateau le Dome at Saddlerock Ranch.  I absolutely adored being a part of this gorgeous day and am excited to pick up a copy of the magazine at my local Borders!

Many, many thanks to the fabulous Cat & Adi of Next Exit Photography for the beautiful images (I never get tired of looking at them!) and the opportunity to share this beautiful wedding with our friends down under.  😉

Have a wonderful Thursday, everyone!  See you again soon~  xoxo, Angel

Happy Monday, everyone!  I am SO excited that we are kicking off this week with a feature on one of my favorite blogs: Green Wedding Shoes!  Jen curates a fabulous blog and pulls together some of the most unique, creative, beautiful weddings for us to enjoy.  It was such an honor when she said she’d be featuring this special wedding, with incredible photos courtesy of my dear friend Braedon of Braedon Photography.

You will recognize this couple as that ultra-stunning pair from that ultra-stylish engagement shoot I featured back in February.  Check them out HERE if you haven’t already.  🙂  Well, they were married in July at the Smog Shoppe and I have been so anxious to share these images with all of you!  A few fun facts to note about this wedding:

-There was an abundance of cats.  Let me explain.  🙂  The bride happens to be a self-professed cat-lady (I know, she looks nothing like the stereotypical cat lady) and has a number of feline friends at home.  We integrated her favorite creatures into the wedding design in a playful, cheeky way using figurines in tablescapes and statuettes for a fun favor.  (Check out the “Adopt-A-Kitty” table…)  I got in on the fun by wearing a tiny cat button on my blouse, too!

-Their ceremony was THE FIRST to take place in Smog Shoppe’s *brand new* ceremony courtyard.  It is directly adjacent to the “original” Smog Shoppe and has all of the quirky, industrial-chic awesomeness you would expect.

-They didn’t serve a plated dinner!  The couple opted for a cocktail-style lounge reception with delicious stations serving up their favorite foods including tacos, sliders (three kinds including kobe beef, salmon with lime aioli and pulled pork), and sweet potato and regular fries!

The wedding was all about FUN and there was joy pulsing through the air that evening. I had such a blast working this wedding and cannot say enough about how perfectly it all turned out.

I wrote up a detailed piece for Green Wedding Shoes so scoot on over to THIS POST FOR PART 1 of the feature, and HERE FOR PART TWO!!  (Thank you again, Jen, for featuring this wedding!!  <3) For now, feast your eyes on some (mostly) uninterrupted eye candy from Braedon!

i love everything about this one!

begs to be framed.

on the left: keeper of the kitties — a succulent cat creation made by the genius ladies of hollyflora.  note that the kitty is perched on a cigar box and is delicately handling a cigarello — a nod to the groom’s love of cigars.

i played calligrapher for the chalkboard menu.  🙂  despite my initial terror of messing it up, i did it all in one shot, 10 minutes.

picture perfect ending to an amazing evening!

…and you know i had to get a snap with holly!  we were instant BFFs when we first met.  adore her.  🙂  (can anyone spy my cat pin??)

For months I’ve been dying to share this charmingly detailed wedding with you… and now I finally can!!  You may recognize the incredible wedding cake from TLC‘s Fabulous Cakes (try to catch a re-run if you can!  :)), or the wedding itself from its feature earlier this week on Style Me Pretty (thanks, ladies!!).  Now I wanted to take my turn in sharing all the gorgeousness with you!  Make sure to visit the Style Me Pretty post for my full write-up.  Since I did a summary recap there, I feel like it would be redundant to write a paraphrased version here.  I will say, however, that this wedding was SO special to me because:

  • The bride and groom were two of the sweetest people ever, and I consider Kristin (the bride) a dear new friend.  🙂  I also had the pleasure of working with Susan (Hi Susan!!), Kristin’s mother, and I loved getting to know her.  It is always such a blessing to work with such wonderful people!!
  • The vendors were dreamy.  A big bunch of my favorites, all rolled into one ridiculously perfect day!
  • The details were incredible!  I have to give credit to Kristin for all of the amazing signage, stationery and tiny details like the lace napkin ties that made the wedding such a dream.  It was an honor knowing that she was entrusting all of her plans to me on the big day, and I could not have been happier with how it all turned out!

Now on to the delightful photos courtesy of my friend and fellow sushi aficionado, Michael Norwood:

Kristin is arrestingly beautiful…

…And also such a joyful spirit!  Love love love this pic!

Kristin with her aforementioned sweetheart-of-a-mom <3

Good-looking bridal party!!  Notice the very special ringbearer…

Love, laughter, and a dog named Baxter!!  (This was the motto of the day!)

Handwritten escort cards, stitched with yellow thread, and placed on a tiered platform (built by the groom!) covered with vintage doilies and a scattering of playful buttons.

THE cake.  The details on each tier were incredible… Melody & her staff blow me away every.single.time.

And the cake you *didn’t* see on TLC — Baxter in cake form!!  🙂  Don’t worry, he wasn’t consumed (for the most part… LOL).

Twelve feet of dessert.  Yes please!

Me the Mr. & Mrs.!!  I adore this pic!  You can get a glimpse of my wedding day style — I like to be formal and punchy at the same time… always integrating some of the inspiration behind the day in my outfit.  🙂  It’s my signature!

I am so delighted to share that I was interviewed and featured in an editorial piece in the latest issue of Brides Southern California {Fall/Winter 2010}!

I was asked to share some of my favorite bands and DJs for various music styles.  Specifically, I raved about…

The Buzzcatz, a jazz band

-The Human Jukebox aka Michael Antonia of The Flash Dance

-Tony & Ian of Red Shoe LA

-Masta, an incredible band represented by DeBois Entertainment

All of these are FABULOUS options for your wedding — adore each and every one of them.

Go grab a copy of the magazine and flip to page 196 for the scoop!  I was excited to share be featured side-by-side with my dear friend (and momma-to-be… to baby #2!  Let a girl catch up, will ya??) Jesi Haack, too!

Thank you to Heather and all my friends at Brides.  Love you ladies and am always honored to contribute to your great magazine!

*I just returned from an incredible weekend in Santa Barbara where I had the delight of seeing another lovely wedding come to fruition.  It was ultra-romantic, very intimate (with 40-ish guests) and the result was truly magical.  I also had the pleasure of working with a team of some of my very favorite vendors including…

There were multiple times that day that I simply stopped to soak it all in — everything was so, so beautiful. Can’t wait to share it with you!

Have a wonderful week!  xoxo, Angel

Happy Friday, dear readers!  I am SO excited to send you off on your weekend with this generous dose of wedding loveliness.  🙂  Note: This utterly gorgeous wedding is featured today (part one here) on the ultra-fabulous Southern Weddings Blog, so make sure you head over there for more beautiful photos and Jennifer’s unique perspective.  (Much love to the amazing ladies @ Southern Weddings magazine; we are thrilled about the feature!)

Just about a month ago, I kicked off 2010 in serious style with Jennifer & Michael’s wedding at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel.  From the outset, Jennifer let me know that she envisioned a charming and elegant, winter-inspired and Southern-feeling wedding and reception.  She was, after all, marrying her very own Southern gentleman.  😉  I absolutely LOVE a good winter wedding, brimming with cozy details and rustic touches.  I had a marvelous time working with Jennifer on every aspect of the design of this wedding and I think the result was truly beautiful.  I hope you are ready for some serious eye candy, because this post is going to be quite laden with images!  So pour yourself a toasty mug of cocoa and curl up with this post; I promise it will warm your soul.  (And if you’re in SoCal where it has been near 80 degrees this week, a frosty glass of lemonade and some flip flops will do, too!)

One hundred thanks to the marvelous photographer (and my very dear friend) Trista Lerit for these incredibly stunning images.  Trista — you always knock it out of the park and I am so thankful that you were there to capture every detail of this special wedding!

Jennifer’s classic gown is by Ulla Maija

Jennifer with her drop-dead gorgeous bridesmaids!  I loved the mix of styles the maids wore; all of their dresses are by Vera Wang Maids.

Kristin crafted the most charming white bridesmaids bouquets, each with a single type of bloom.  They were striking against the navy blue gowns.  Do you spy the gorgeous ring they’re all wearing, too?  Perfection.

Can we all pause and fall in love with Jennifer’s bouquet right now??  It definitely was one of my all-time favorites.  Bold, intensely textural, and a little wild.  🙂  The gigantic amaryllis blooms send me over the edge, though…

The chapel at Mariners is breathtaking…

The cutest getaway car 🙂

Cocktail tables were topped with silver mint julep cups filled with creamy white blooms, branchy pussy willow and my favorite — magnolia leaves! Pinecones and cinnamon sticks were added as another seasonal touch.

Just in case it isn’t coming across in the photos — these tall centerpieces were ENORMOUS.  They made a dramatic statement in the Ritz Carlton’s Pavilion Ballroom.  Kristin never skimps on her arrangements; they always blow me away.  These were no exception; I absolutely adored the soft texture of the florals she used, as well as the height added by the branches.

Other tables had a trio of arrangements, nestled in rustic wooden boxes and dotted with pinecones and cinnamon sticks.  Tables were named after the ski resorts of North America; I looove that!!

Sprigs of rosemary made fragrant napkin accents.

The hotel provided tealights on the tables, but we supplemented with these mason jar votives that Kris brought in.  They perfectly capture both the wintry and Southern feel we wanted to evoke…

The sweetheart table had this incredible trough of florals, accented by the couple’s initials (stands purchased at Anthropologie) and fake snow!  Yep… fake snow!!  Before you get indignant at the thought of something so potentially heinous, allow me to show you this….

Introducing — Angel’s favorite ‘special project’ for this wedding!  Many of my {lovely} and {splendid} package clients (like Jennifer), commission me to put together exquisite décor projects for them.  This was the pièce de resistance for me that day, and was a complete surprise to Jennifer.  (P.S. She LOVED it!)  It is a birch pole structure (designed by me, built by my husband… LOL) adorned with crystals, grapevine wreaths, and lots of fake snow! Kristin provided the wooden boxes for the escort cards, which I filled with more fake snow.  The escort cards were affixed to little twigs (which I snapped, one by one, for various lengths) and placed into the snowy beds.  I think this display, set against the dazzling blue Pacific Ocean, was truly visually arresting and I could not have been more pleased with the result!

The floral adornment??  That would be my Twigs and Honey necklace!!  I grabbed it and brought it along because I knew it would be the perfect touch for this display.  Tell me it wasn’t made to be hung on birch poles.  SERIOUSLY — can this get any cuter??  🙂  Why actually, it can…

… with the addition of 3 of my Ann Wood birds!  I collect these precious (and highly coveted) birdies and they live on my desk.  I knew that they would be right at home in this setting, bundled up in their scarves and jaunty acorn berets.

In case you’re wondering, the fabulous fake snow we used is cold, wet, and packs/feels like real snow!  It is truly amazing and we used it all the time at Anthropologie (I worked there in college) for our winter displays.

The pastry chef at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel did a wonderful job with both of these special cakes.  I loved the sugar paste magnolias on the wedding cake, and the playfulness of the groom’s cake (a surprise to Michael!).  Can you name both teams represented on the cake??

I almost cried laughing during Jennifer’s sister’s toast.  She brought along a headshot of Scott Weinger (DJ’s boyfriend on ‘Full House’ — apparently Jennifer’s dream man in her adolescent years) that had been hidden away for over a decade among Jennifer’s old things.  How many of us were crazy about him growing up??  LOL

If there’s one thing you can gather from these images, it’s that Jennifer & Michael are so deeply in love with one another.  The way that Jennifer looks at Michael just makes you stop and melt a little.  All of us (vendors) could not stop talking about how palpable their love was that day — what a joy it is for me to be in the company of inspiring love, every.single.day.

My favorite part of the day: I gave Jennifer and Michael a “sneak peek” of the reception room during cocktail hour and it moved Jennifer to near-tears.  I will never forget the look on her face and the way it made my heart swell!  I have the best job in the world (yes, I’m a broken record!) and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a bride over-the-moon on her wedding day.  <3

Jennifer & Michael: It was a complete pleasure working with you in planning and designing your wedding day!  Thank you for inviting me into your lives and allowing me to share in all of the excitement, joy, and beauty of your wedding.  Thank you for trusting me in so many ways, and allowing me to stretch my creative muscles with many of the details.  Thank you, most of all, for the gift of your friendship.  You two are truly blessed with one another; I know your love will continue to grow, deepen, and sweeten with time.  Love you both very much and can’t wait to see you again soon!!
