Happy Monday, everyone!!  I am SO excited to let the cat officially out of the bag today and let you all know that we were PUBLISHED in the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine!  { pinch me! }

Yes, the Spring 2013 issue features one of our beautiful weddings on its pages… and it happens to be the wedding of my baby sister, Anna!  My love & splendor clients and colleagues all know and adore Anna, as she has been an assistant coordinator for me since the very beginnings of the company.  Anna was married to my wonderful brother-in-law, Sean, last June, and it has been sooooo hard to keep this gorgeous wedding under wraps for so long.  But, we knew this stunning wedding was destined to be shared somewhere special.  It is a true honor (and honestly, one of my proudest biz moments ever!) to see this wedding on the pages of Martha Stewart Weddingsit is a dream come true.  The fact that the wedding is my sister’s takes it over the top because the event held so much personal meaning to our family.  I will never ever forget that day… It was filled with so much beauty and love and emotion.  I kept looking over at Anna throughout the evening and her expressions were filled with so much pure joy.  Designing this day for her and Sean was a true labor of love and I hope it shows!

When we found out that the wedding would be featured in the magazine, I nearly keeled over!  I have been counting down to this date for months!  Okay so I’m already thrilled, I am pushed to the limits of my excitement, and then imagine when I found out that a photo of my precious family was included in the magazine as well!  Yes, a photo of me, Erik, and a 3-month old baby Olive are featured in the magazine, too!!  AHH!

I cannot tell you how much my heart is exploding.  It’s a business-personal-family-press milestone all wrapped into one big ball of joy and now I want to celebrate with YOU!

To mark this fabulous occasion for love & splendor and my family, I wanted to host a little giveaway!  The prize includes a fresh copy of the Spring 2013 Martha Stewart Weddings magazine to enjoy, a Starbucks gift card (because we all know reading magazines is always better accompanied by a latte) , and a few surprises.  😉

To enter, just comment below and let me know either your favorite thing about spring.  It could be a flower, a tradition, a local event…  I can’t wait to read about your seasonal favorites!  One of my favorites has to be fresh English peas.  They are like tiny bubbles of happiness!  I love their mild sweet flavor and I try to eat as much of them as I can while they’re available!

Good luck on the giveaway — you have until WEDNESDAY, March 6th at 6p PST to enter.

P.S. I highly recommend grabbing the magazine in all its printed glory, but right now you MUST get the gorgeous iPad version.  It’s currently FREE (woohoo!) with the code GEhhNG.  Just go HERE, fill out the info and the promo code, and they will email you instructions on how to obtain your free iPad copy.

In early November, I had the pleasure of working with a fabulous team on a winter-inspired shoot.  Yesterday the fruits of our labor were featured on Style Me Pretty, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!  Make sure to mosey over to see both of the posts (HERE and HERE) which take a peek at two unique “takes” on the same table.  And lots of love to the team at SMP for their support of our work throughout the years.  <3

I don’t do a lot of staged shoots, but the idea for this unique project was borne out of a desire to capture the holiday spirit and bring it to life with REAL people, REAL food, and a REAL gathering.  Instead of perfectly manicured models traipsing around opulent tables that are big on WOW and short on practicality (i.e. tables you would never have at an actual wedding), our shoot would feature real people (including me and my husband and some of our dear friends from Cana VP) sitting at a rustic table that you could easily recreate at home.

The hearty winter menu featured beautiful seasonal produce including a ribolita (a Tuscan bean and cabbage stew), fig and chipotle stuffed pork loin, herb and parmesan-crusted pumpkin wedges, cider-braised brussels sprouts dotted with pomegranate jewels and warm farro with grilled raddichio, pistachios, dried cherries and a white truffle shallot vinaigrette.  The meal was presented on my favorite Spode Jewel china from Casa de Perrin (did you know you can rent their wares for more than just weddings?  Their gorgeous tabletop décor is perfect for intimate dinner parties, holiday festivities and more…) — a subtle and lovely white-on-white pattern that gets me every time.  Gold flatware added a touch of luxury, and emerald goblets paired with clear pressed glass made for a festive tabletop.  Simple pine boughs draped along the center of the table, punctuated by pinecones and potted olive trees (hint hint) brought a touch of the season in, without going overboard.  The endlessly talented Julie Song of Julie Song Ink created lovely placecards, menus and placards for the food using reclaimed wood and gold ink.  The coasters she made from wood slices with gilded edges are my favorite!  Our friends from Enjoy Cupcakes provided the sweetest ending with a gorgeous cake (the sugared cranberries were show-stopping!) and scrumptious cupcakes in flavors like gingerbread, cranberry cobbler, and spiced pear butter chardonnay.  YUM.

To really showcase the versatility of the tabletop, we ended up doing two set-ups: the original vision as described above, along with one more luxe and lush that could translate beautifully into a wedding.  Our wintery elegant tabletop swapped the branches for creamy textural florals in ceramic glazed trophy cups and striking pillar candles.  The greyish green tones of natural air plants added a bit of modernity to an otherwise classic look.  Our cozy lounge vignette featuring pieces from {found} vintage rentals made the perfect accompaniment, using flokati pillows and a warm cable knit throw.  The entire look was luxurious yet accessible.  The floral designer, Camilla of Camilla Flowers, is a true artist.  Her creativity and talent blows me away…  (She did my mother’s wedding back in 2008 and I am still in awe of her work from that day!)

Here is a peek…

you can always gauge how happy I am when i smile by how much of my gums I show.  so… I’m pretty darn happy here.  🙂

yes, that is my adorable husband above on the right!

cheers!

As we sat down to wrap up our “shoot,” we realized that the inspired setting we had created was more than just a still-life for eyes only.  Our intention all along was to design a table that could actually be enjoyed, food and treats that could actually be consumed, a place that would become an actual venue for laughter, conversation and holiday cheer.  As the sun set and we clinked glasses and passed dishes across the table, I couldn’t help but marvel at what we had created.  It was more than a tabletop.  It had become an event.

My hope is that this Christmas, this season, at your wedding or at your next gathering with those you love, you would turn your table into an event. Even a casual dinner can become an occasion when you set the mood and incorporate a few well-conceived details.  In the end, what set this shoot apart (in my mind, anyway) was the warmth and love of all those involved, coming together for something more than just a pretty picture.  Of course thanks to Ryan Ray we got the stunning images, but more than that, they evoke a lovely day filled with laughter and good friends.  Your setting is just the stage for creating beautiful memories.

Here is a roundup of the fabulous team that brought this gathering to life…

Thank you for stopping by!  With Christmas and the end of the year rapidly approaching, I have a handful of blog posts coming your way.  😉  Keep your eyes open for 1) Olive’s 9 months post, 2) A gorgeous Santa Ynez wedding feature, 3) Another great giveaway and 4) An exciting announcement!

Let me know in the comments: what are YOUR plans for gathering during the holidays?  Enjoy your weekend!!  xoxo, Angel

Niki & Will are such a rad couple.  They are stylish, hilarious, and head-over-heels in love… and we had a blast working with them!  Their playful wedding was featured on Green Wedding Shoes last month (thank you, Jen!) but we wanted to share some photos here, too.

The shindig took place at one of my new favorite venues: Santa Margarita Ranch in Santa Margarita, CA.  I love the old marquee out front (which Will and Niki customized with their own welcome wording), the vintage train, the ceremony courtyard strung with market lights, and the barn — oh! the barn! — is a 100-year old structure built over original walls from 1817!  The building was initially built as an asistencia to Mission San Luis Obispo.  When I stepped into the barn for the first time, I was taken aback by the incredile stone + mortar walls, the warm sunlight pouring in through wooden slats, the overhead lighting that is enchanting in its simplicity.  It is a wonderful setting for a wedding (or any celebration!) and I look forward to returning there soon!

Niki and Will both work in the entertainment industry (Niki writes for The Office, and Will is an actor) and have a great sense of fun.  Their crowd is also an incredible party crew; I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a more packed and lively dancefloor!  Their day was infused with lots of personal and whimsical touches like…  tables named after the funny Texas sayings of Niki’s father // custom paper bibs for a proper Southern feast // a pie bar // a ceremony backdrop made by the couple using salvaged screen doors // readings from Steve Martin and Rumi and a re-enactment of a scene from “True Romance” // a pom pom toss for the recessional …

We LOVE this couple and we know you will too after you take a peek at these great photos from onelove photography.

i had fun making the chalkboard dinner menu + window pane welcome sign for the couple 🙂

Enjoy your Wednesday and see you all soon.  <3

Two weeks ago, while I was prepping for my sister’s wedding, this fabulous wedding popped up on Style Me Pretty!!  I was thrilled for our feature, but was sort of bummed I couldn’t properly time my own post to coincide with it.  😉  Nonetheless, I am excited to be sharing this romantic Malibu wedding with you today.  It’s soft, feminine, and elegant… a lovely bit of wedding beauty to kick off your week!

Nelly was a dream client and is just a darling girl.  I loved getting to know her while we planned together, as she has such a sweet and calming demeanor.  She was always genuinely interested in how I was doing (especially since I was pregnant while we were collaborating!), making it a point to ask me each time we got together.  I found that so touching that while she was preparing for such a momentous occasion in her life, she was truly excited for me and my own exciting news.  We laughed together, visited food trucks together (LOL) and dreamed together.  Nelly and I share a love for all things romantic so the design of her wedding was effortless.  The muted pastel palette, lush florals and vintage details made for a picture perfect scene.

One of my favorite design details we worked on for this wedding was the escort card display.  Nelly and I also share a love for Parisian décor (I’m a total francophile and French is my 2nd language!), so we brought in a bit of France with a boulangerie-inspired escort card set-up.  Using a a cobbler’s rack from {found} vintage rentals, we stocked it with beautiful artisan breads and petite floral arrangements.  Escort card tags were hung from lengths of sweet cotton lace trim using mini clothespins.  When guests arrived at their seats, they found petite baguettes wrapped in kraft paper waiting for them.  😉

The festivities were held at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, and captured by my insanely talented friend, Hugh Forte.  Take a look…

For a video of the day, check out this goodie from our pals at Elysium Productions.

As always, many thanks to the group of colleagues and friends who made this day flawless:

NOTE: This wedding was beautifully featured last Friday on Style Me Pretty!  Check it out over there — we thank the lovely team at SMP for always being sweet supporters of our work!  xox

Hello everyone!!  Today I’m kicking off a two-part post of a vibrant Indian wedding I planned and designed last year.  I remember meeting Vipula and Dan for the first time at a local coffee shop and soaking up their vision.  They both desired a quintessentially Indian wedding, embellished in vibrant hues and dripping with luxurious, exotic details.  They were getting married at Saddlerock Ranch (my home away from home), but at a different venue — the Oak Grove.  It was the perfect setting for their larger guest count because it provided a blank slate for the layout of the celebration, as well as lots of open, flat space (which was important for the tenting they eventually decided on).  We capitalized on all that space by creating three unique ‘venues’ on their wedding day.

Their traditional Hindu ceremony was held under a custom-built mandap made by the floral and event designers/geniuses at R. Jack Balthazar.  Rene & Niki are two of my favorite people in the wedding industry and they and their team always over-deliver with their incredibly creative work.  The wooden structure was draped with floral garlands and hanging lanterns for a lavish look.  Cocktail hour was held on an adjacent lawn, featuring a bar staffed by professional mixologists offering signature cocktails with exotic ingredients such as earl grey-infused vodka, thyme, tamarind syrup and fresh mango puree.  Upholstered lounge furniture and embroidered pillows made for a luxe yet warm setting for imbibing.  I especially enjoyed working on the escort card table design here, which played on Vipula’s love of elephants.  Escort cards were cut using a custom-made elephant-shaped die, and then nestled in shallow bowls of fragrant and colorful spices.  The entire table was covered with elephant figures and statues to further play out the motif.

Guests were moved to a grand “village” of tents for dinner and dancing.  Instead of a single tent structure, we utilized “destination” tents for dining, a custom-built bar, and a dessert and chair lounge.  All of the tents surrounded an inner ‘courtyard’ of sorts, which featured more tables, cushy lounges and the dancefloor.  Sumptuous fabrics, abundant florals and plush furniture made for a spectacular setting that was decidedly extravagant while also intimate and warm.  Per usual, my dear friends at R. Jack Balthazar pulled out all the stops for this wedding and did not overlook a single detail in setting each opulent table.  The overall setting was nothing short of spectacular.  It was pure magic to watch Vipula and Dan’s guests, many adorned in splendid saris, mingling in the lavish scene.

Because there is just *too much* deliciousness to share in just one post, I’ve decided to break up this wedding posting into two parts.  Today I’m sharing photos of the couple, the ceremony + the cocktail hour.  I’ll be back soon with the reception images, so make sure to come back to check them out.  😉  In the meanwhile, cozy up with your cup of chai (I like mine with milk and a hint of vanilla) and enjoy the gorgeous images courtesy of Nate and Jac Kaiser of The Image Is Found — two of my favorite people and photographers on the planet.

meet vipula and dan 🙂

i was completely in love with all THREE of vipula’s saris that day…

a sheet separates the couple before they can see each other for the first time

absolutely adorable kiddos <3

sari #2 — possibly my favorite 🙂

cocktail hour!

since dinner would be an all-out Indian feast, cocktail hour featured vip & dan’s favorite American-style bites

tented cards are much more fun when they’re elephant-shaped 🙂

Lots and LOTS more to come!!  🙂  In the meanwhile, I hope you have an inspired Wednesday.

Today I am SO delighted to share this charming, woodland-themed wedding with all of you…  It is a wedding that is dear to my heart for so many reasons.  🙂  First – Jess & Scott are two of the loveliest, most creative and wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.  (I know I always share a lot of love for my clients but honestly, can you blame me when I work with the best clients in the world??  You’ve seen this couple on my blog already HERE and HERE and HERE (which you MUST click to see their wedding video)!  Working with these lovebirds was a dream from start to finish, because they had an incredible artistic vision and the most insane vintage-hunting skills ever.  😉  Most of the unique decor and furniture was individually sourced by them at flea markets from here to Indiana!

Secondly – this wedding vendor team was made up of some of my very favorite people.  It is always an extra blessing to work alongside people I love, who inspire me!  In this case, I was fortunate to have both Ryan Ray Photo & Cana Video Productions along for the celebration.

Finally – everything about this celebration is both stunning yet approachable.  Truly, I was obsessed with every detail and aspect of this wedding because the warm, intimate, rustic and oftentimes quirky (love!!) design made me smile all night long.  Likewise, I loved watching the joy spread over the faces of guests, unexpectedly discovering gnomes, forest creatures and enchanted mushrooms nestled amongst the flowers and candles on their dinner tables.  From heart-warming ceremony to tearful wedding preview video showing, to late-night bonfire s’mores-roasting… being at this wedding was bliss.  Thank you to Jess & Scott for allowing me to be a part of the magical day…

Today we are honored to have this lovely celebration featured *all day* on Style Me Pretty, one of my favorite places on the web to be inspired.  🙂  Enjoy checking out Jess’s inspiration boards, as well as these feature posts (HERE and HERE) for all the beauty you can handle.  Photos are courtesy of the painfully talented Ryan Ray Photography, whose imagery moves my heart.  It is a blessing to call him friend.

guest tables were individually themed after woodland creatures: bear, owl, fox, and you know… dinosaurs!!  🙂  each table featured miniature toys and trinkets in the shape of the highlighted animal.  you would not believe the goodies jess and scott discovered!!

Enjoy your Tuesday, loves!!

Just under 3 months ago, we had the absolute pleasure of seeing the culmination of this very special wedding… the marriage of blogger (and friend!), Rachel and her high school sweetheart, Dustin.  I’ve known Rachel for years because she grew up with my best friend, Kristin.  I got to know her better via her incredible lifestyle blog, Heart of Light, where she regularly posts about food, family, crafting…  She lives her life beautifully, I savor each post she writes.  I was both floored and honored when she reached out to me about possibly helping with the planning and coordinating of her wedding day this fall.  I knew without a doubt that the day would be a special one.  Rachel’s creativity and eye for design are inspiring.  Pair her up with Dustin, a talented architect, and you have the recipe for a fabulous celebration.

Rachel and Dustin get all the credit for the incredibly beautiful, handmade, colorful and playful décor they created for this wedding.  From the gocco’d invitations to the hand-dyed napkins… to the carefully crafted paper flower centerpieces to a festive fringed and ruffled crepe backdrop… Rachel and Dustin poured their hearts into designing a wedding that celebrated THEM.  Anna and Michelle, my ever wonderful assistants, simply carried out Rachel and Dustin’s designs on the big day.  It is always a treat to work alongside such creative clients and although we here at Love & Splendor adoooore being a part of the design process, we are also eager to collaborate with our brilliant couples on their own phenomenal visions for their weddings.  What a privilege.

Rachel & Dustin’s beautiful wedding has already made a splash on the net after a series of features were posted on 100 Layer Cake (one of my very favorite wedding blogs).  Enjoy this look at their whimsical, vibrant, bliss-filled day, courtesy of images from Fresh In Love Photography.  xoxo

i LOVE this one.  simple and perfect.

<3

We hope you all enjoyed this cheery celebration as much as we did.  The bright colors feel like a bit of sunshine on this chilly winter day.  🙂  Enjoy your Tuesday!!

 xoxo, Angel

{vendor round-up}

Hello everyone!!  Thank you SO very much for your heartwarming comments on the last post.  I read and re-read them all, cherishing all of your kind words.  We feel so surrounded by love during this exciting time and are blessed to have your support and prayers.  🙂

Today I am delighted to share with you a positively stunning wedding that took place almost exactly a year ago (Happy Anni, I & H!).  This beautiful affair was featured on Style Me Pretty today and I know you will enjoy poring over the gorgeous images here, too.

The event took place at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, which is easily one of my favorite venues ever.  The property has a genuine charm, sweetness, and romance that is completely natural.  It just feels like love.  Ingrid and Howard’s wedding can be summed up best in one word: lovely.  Their intimate celebration was romantic, vintage and inspired by nature.  They embraced a soft and ladylike palette of sherbet colors (including peach, blush and pale yellows) accented by a dusty aqua.   Their heartfelt ceremony on the garden lawn was followed by a cocktail reception featuring raspberry mojitos and peach bellinis.  Inside San Ysidro Ranch’s Colman Cottage, they gathered with just over 40 guests for a cozy dinner party.  The sounds of classical Spanish guitar played in the background as guests dined and laughed together.  As the night wound down, guests were treated to a dessert buffet and a gourmet popcorn station featuring fanciful toppings — everything from chili powder to dried seaweed flakes.  The atmosphere facilitated warm conversations that lingered into the mild summer evening, as guests lingered on the starlit patio…

Feast your eyes on these breathtaking photos by none other than the purely talented Jose Villa…  Everything he captures on film, I want to frame.  Grateful to call him a friend.

I & H: You are two of the sweetest, most thoughtful people I have had the pleasure to work with over the years.  Your gentle and genuine love was incredible to behold, and your wedding day was pure magic.  Wishing you only the best — miss you both!  xoxo
